AN UPDATE FROM THE HELPING HANDS TEAM

A word of thanks
As many of you, our kind & generous supporters know, we have been helping Sandra to provide much-needed meals to a number of children in her Khayelitsha neighbourhood. Up to date her humble kitchen and warm heart have provided 2 258 meals to children whose lives have been affected by the lockdown and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Sandra and some of her neighbours who have been helping out will be going back to work full time from January, and hopefully the schools and their food programs will be back up and running which means that Sandra will effectively close her charity kitchen at the end of November. To end off the year, and bring to a close this small project with the BIG heart, Sandra has one last wish – a small Christmas celebration for the children who have benefitted from these meals since April. In her words, she wants to “close this chapter” in an appropriate, and festive manner.

We are aiming for a beach outing to Strand/Gordons Bay area on Saturday, 5 December.
We would appreciate any and all assistance in providing the children, and Sandra, with a fun day out.
Sandra and 9 helpers, with the 40 children from her community who have benefitted from the kitchen since its inception, will be meeting us at the beach for a day of fun in the sun.

Please have a look at our needs list below and contact us should you be able to assist in anyway:
• Transport costs of R2 000 (from Maccassar, Khayelitsha to Strand/ Gordonsbaai and back again) for 50 pax;
• Food packs for 40 kids and 10 adults
• Beach umbrellas or gazebos for shade (to be borrowed);
• Beach bats, beach balls, boogie boards, buckets and other toys which the kids can play with on the day – either borrowed or donated so that they can use them at home too
• Old/ second-hand towels and sun hats;
• We are also looking for donations of sunscreen – preferably eco-and ocean-friendly
No matter how small your donation, whether it’s in-kind or monetary, it will go towards spreading joy, sunshine and happiness to some wonderful people. You are also welcome to come and join us on the day!
Even if you cannot help, please consider sharing this message and project with your circle of friends, family and colleagues.

As always, with much gratitude and many blessings
