THE SCHOENSTATT SHRINE is a place of grace and pilgrimage, recognized as such by the Church. The picture of Mary in the Shrine is, likewise, an acknowledged picture of grace. It is the spiritual home for our community and the whole Schoenstatt Movement. The doors of the Shrine are open to anyone who wants to come and pray and experience Gods nearness.
When we pray in the Shrine before this picture, we receive special favours; many of our petitions are answered and we experience Mary's motherly care, guidance and education.
God is present and active everywhere. However, in certain places He is particularly active and effective. These places are called "places of grace", places of pilgrimage or "sanctuaries".
In Schoenstatt the little Chapel dedicated to Mary our “Mother Thrice Admirable, Queen and Victress of Schoenstatt” is known simply as the Shrine. It is here that the various communi-ties of Schoenstatt, the whole Schoenstatt Movement and countless pilgrims receive the grace to live their calling.
The Original Shrine, or Mother Shrine as it is sometimes called, is situated in Schoenstatt, Germany. It is the place of Schoenstatt’s foundation, the spiritual home of all Schoenstatt members and the centre of all Schoenstatt life.
It is a single shrine that embraces people of different nationalities. From there, healing and graces of holiness radiate into our secularised and de-personalised world. It is just one shrine but, over the last 100 years, this place of grace has become a network of shrines on every continent.
Materially rich, business people and also people on the roadside, in the heart of the city or town, at work, in prisons, hospitals, orphanages, homes for the elderly, churches, war zones, refugees in utter poverty ... walk through the open door of a shrine and encounter God and Mary. The Original Shrine has evolved into 200 replica “daughter Shrines” wayside shrines, home shrines, Pilgrim Mother shrines, heart shrines. It is a shrine that is global, connected to a network, without boundaries and utterly person-oriented, to the Persons of supernature and those who are still earthbound.
